The IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation is delighted to welcome three new Members from Mediterranean countries, reinforcing our region’s collective efforts toward nature conservation and sustainable development.

  • Faculty of Agronomy – ULFA Alumni (Lebanon)
Representing academic excellence in agricultural and environmental sciences, this institution brings critical expertise to the Mediterranean’s efforts in sustainable land and food systems.
  • Coral Guardian (France)
An NGO dedicated to marine biodiversity protection through coral reef restoration, Coral Guardian’s innovative, community-based approach will contribute significantly to IUCN’s marine conservation agenda.
  • Ocean & Climate Platform (POC) (France)
This platform unites ocean and climate actors to advocate for integrated, science-based action. Their inclusion adds a powerful climate policy and communication voice to the IUCN network.

These new Members were approved by the IUCN Council during its most recent session in May 2025, and will enrich regional collaboration and knowledge sharing.

A New Milestone: IUCN National Committee Established in Egypt

In a landmark development, Egypt has officially launched its IUCN National Committee, chaired by the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA). This committee unites Egyptian IUCN Members under a shared vision to advance biodiversity conservation and environmental governance at the national level.

Egypt now becomes the fourth North African country—alongside Libya, Morocco, and Tunisia—to establish a National Committee. This growing regional network enhances coordination, empowers civil society and government collaboration, and strengthens North Africa’s collective contribution to IUCN’s global mission.
