The Harlequin ladybird, native to Asia, is an invasive alien species widespread in Europe, North America, and parts of South America and Africa.

This initiative is a key step towards scaling up actions required to fulfil the ambitious commitments on IAS in the new IUCN Programme. To do this, IUCN as a Union will need to take a strategic approach, with partnerships across its constituents and beyond. This consultation is the first step in developing an IUCN strategy on IAS, and will help us identify potential partners, priority actions, opportunities, and challenges.

  • Who can participate? All IUCN constituents (e.g. Members, Commissions, Secretariat) and other interested stakeholders are encouraged to contribute their insights and experiences.
  • How to participate? IUCN are soliciting feedback via an online consultation form which can be found here.
  • What is the consultation timeline? The consultation will be open until the 19th December 2025.
  • What next? Once the consultation is closed, IUCN will arrange a webinar in early 2026 to initiate an engagement process with interested parties, both IUCN and non-IUCN, identified through the consultation, to start the strategy development.

For more information and to stay updated on the consultation process, please visit the IUCN IAS website or contact the IUCN Secretariat on [email protected].
